Baby Rams Roll Over Cummings

The Reidsville Review

The Reidsville Baby Rams finally got their junior varsity football season under way Wednesday night and had very few problems with host Burlington Cummings. Reidsville built a 24-0 lead and cruised past the Baby Cavaliers, 32-12.
Reidsville (1-0) had its game with Morehead last week washed out and that game will be made up on Sept. 18 in Eden.
After a scoreless first quarter, Reidsville’s Damien Cooper needed one play in the second to go 19 yards for the game’s first points. D.J. Jumper added the first of two conversion runs for an 8-0 RHS lead.
With 44 seconds left in the first half, Cooper scored on a 6-yard run and Jumper added the conversion as the Baby Rams led 16-0 at halftime.
Cooper had 66 yards rushing as Reidsville rushed 18 times for 150 yards (8.3 yards per carry). William Welch added 41 yards and Rashawn McNeal had 33.
Jumper got into the scoring act with his arm as the second half began. With 1:40 left in the period, Jumper connected with McNeal for a 34-yard TD strike. The two hooked up again for the two-point conversion as RHS took control, 24-0.
Following a Cummings touchdown — a 70-yard TD pass — McNeal hauled in his second touchdown reception of the night, a 25-yard pass from Tony Roach.
Tim Long added the conversion run.
With nine seconds left in the game, the Baby Cavs added a cosmetic 14-yard touchdown pass.
McNeal caught two passes for 59 yards and had two scores and Jermaine McCain added one catch for five yards.
Defensively, Josh Farmer had a fumble recovery and Michael Lee led his team with eight tackles. Teron Foster added five tackles and Trey Martin and Dominique Neal each had four. Josh Wagner also played well defensively.
Reidsville is back in action against Rockingham County Sept. 11.
Next week’s game is slated for 7 p.m. at Community Stadium.
