Rams Dominant In Win Over Cummings
Ray Ray Butchee ran for four touchdowns and little brother Lavert Butchee threw for another to lead the Reidsville Rams to a convincing 43-6 win over Burlington Cummings Thursday night in Community Stadium.
The win improves the Rams to 2-0 on the season while Cummings falls to 2-1. The 37-point margin of victory was the third largest for Reidsville in the 26-game series between the two since the Rams beat the Cavaliers 43-0 in 1972. The Rams won by a 47-0 count in Cummings' first year of football in 1970 en route to the WNCHSAA championship. The all-time series between the two now stands at an even 13-13.
Big brother Ray Ray scored on runs of 25, 1, 5, and 1 yards while little brother Lavert tossed a beautiful 76-yard touchdown pass to Tyrell Houghton.
Ray Ray rushed 15 times for 52 yards and completed 9 of 11 passes for 154 yards. Aaron Easton added another 45 yards on the ground and had one touchdown.
Kenzel Doe had four receptions for 54 yards and Houghton caught three balls for 108 yards. Doe also returned an interception 30 yards and blocked a punt.
The Rams had 360 yards in total offense and the Reidsville defense limited the Cavaliers to 214 yards of offense.
Kicker A.J. Williams was 5 for 5 on extra points and Niko McGirt ran in a two-point conversion.
Reidsville's lone blemishes were three lost fumbles and 11 penalties for 97 yards.
Jazz Totten and Omar Dickerson recovered fumbles for the Rams.
Butchee scored the first of his four touchdowns on a nice 25-yard run with 5:52 left in the first quarter. He followed that up with a one-yard run at the 3:26 mark.
Easton got in on the act from six yards out to stake the Rams to a 21-0 lead at halftime.
Butchee's five-yard run and McGirt's conversion opened a 29-0 lead midway through the third quarter and his one-yard plunge made it a 36-0 game early in the fourth.
Brother Lavert put the finishing touches on the game with a 76-yard bomb to Houghton.
Cummings got its lone score on an eight-yard pass from Bryson Leath to Antonio Shoffner with 1:22 left in the game.
Reidsville returns to action agian next Friday as it travels to Wentworth to take on rival Rockingham County at 7:30.
