Baby Rams Whip Rockingham County
Reidsville piled up 383 yards in total offense en route to a 38-8 whipping of rival Rockingham County Thursday night in Community Stadium.
The win improves the Baby Rams to 2-0 on the season while the Cubs dip to 0-2. Reidsville has now won 58 of its last 60 junior varsity football games.
Reidsville's offensive output included 262 yards on 37 rushes and another 121 in the air.
The Baby Ram defense held Rockingham to a total of 48 yards of offense (11 rushing, 37 passing). Josh Farmer, Akeem Dennis, and Devon Carroll had sacks and Christian Williams intercepted a pass.
Rockingham's lone score was an 83-yard kickoff return to open the second half. The Cougars did not pick up their initial first down until the final three minutes of the third quarter.
Rashawn McNeal led the Baby Ram rushing attack with 116 yards on seven carries. Tony Roach had 49 yards and D.J. Jumper added another 47. Jumper also completed 5 of 11 passes for 121 yards and two touchdowns.
The Baby Rams had two other touchdowns nullified by penalties.
Reidsville set the tone early as it took the opening kickoff and drove 75 yards for a touchdown. Damien Cooper got the payoff from two yards out and added the conversion run for an 8-0 lead with 4:28 left in the first quarter.
Special teams got into the act on Rockingham's first possession as a high snap from center in punt formation rolled out of the end zone for a safety and a 10-0 RHS lead.
McNeal made it 16-0 with a seven-yard run and was then on the receiving end of a 66-yard bomb from Jumper with 17 seconds left in the first half to open a 24-0 Reidsville lead at intermission.
The Cubs answered the third quarter bell by returning the kick for a touchdown and conversion (no RCHS roster was provided) to pare the Ram lead to 24-8.
Roach then scored on a five-yard run and Jumper's pass to McNeal made it a 32-8 game with 4:53 left in the third.
Jermaine McCain closed out the scoring as he hauled in a 32-yard strike from Jumper with 6:08 left to set the final margin.
Reidsville will return to action again next Thursday as it travels to Morehead to play the Panthers in a game rescheduled from Aug. 28.
