The Reidsville Baby Rams remain perfect on the season, now at 7-0, following Thursday night’s 36-8 North State Conference win over host Eastern Guilford.
Reidsville, which returns home next Thursday against Winston-Salem Atkins, built a 22-8 halftime lead and never looked back.
The Baby Rams used a strong running attack to get past the Wildcats – led by Josh Harden’s season-high 128 yards on 11 carries. Harden scored the team’s second touchdown on a two-yard run. Lavert Butchee added the two-point conversion for a 16-8 RHS lead.
Reidsville struck first when Butchee connected with Kenzel Doe on a 45-yard TD pass. The same combination hooked up seconds later for the two-point conversion.
Doe finished with four receptions for 97 yards and two TDs. Doe also threw for a touchdown when he returned the favor to Butchee on the Baby Rams’ last score.
The Doe to Butchee connection went for 24 yards. Harden added the final two-point conversion.
Reidsville rushed 33 times for 255 yards. In addition to Harden’s 128 yards, William Welch chipped in with four carries for 50 yards and Butchee rushed eight times for 35 yards.
Leading 16-8 with 28 seconds left in the half, Butchee found his main-man Doe for a 25-yard touchdown.
Through the air, Butchee was 4 for 9 passing for 97 yards and two scores. Doe was 2 for 2 for 66 yards through the air.
Defensively, the Baby Rams (2-0 in North State) got fumble recoveries from Gabriel Hildebrand and Stephen Williams and Doe added an interception. Hildebrand also recorded five tackles and Harden and Deshawn Crews chipped in with four and three tackles respectively.
Next Thursday’s game with Atkins gets under way at 7 p.m. from Community Stadium.
