The Reidsville Review

The Reidsville Baby Rams did not look sharp, turning the ball over five times and got all they could handle from Winston-Salem Atkins. But in the end, the Baby Rams prevailed 16-6 and notched win No. 8 Thursday night at Community Stadium.
Atkins, which had just one win coming in (1-6, 1-2), played keep away most of the night – limiting Reidsville’s offense to less than 30 plays for the game. The Baby Camels, on the other hand, ran 60 offensive plays and controlled much of the second-half clock.
Reidsville (8-0, 3-0) led 8-0 with over six minutes left in the game. However, on a 13-yard run from Josh Harden, Reidsville committed its fourth fumble of the game.
The Baby Camels took over at the Reidsville 31 and six plays later Cedric Williams scored on a one-yard quarterback sneak. The conversion, which was attempted twice due to an RHS penalty, failed and Reidsville’s lead was trimmed to 8-6.
Earlier in the game, Atkins put together a 19-play drive that began in the third quarter and ran into the fourth quarter. The Camels, who benefited from two 15-yard RHS penalties in fourth down plays, but Williams’ fourth and 15 pass from the Baby Rams’ 18-yard line fell incomplete.
Reidsville, which fumbled four times and had one interception, was successful rushing the football. The Baby Rams, who were averaging 41.4 points per game this season, did rush for 189 yards on 25 carries (7.6 per carry).
Quarterback Lavert Butchee led Reidsville with 99 yards on nine carries and Stephen Williams added 68 yards on 10 attempts.
The Baby Rams sealed the win when Butchee raced into the end zone from 34-yards away with 2:12. Butchee added the two-point conversion for the 10-point victory.
On its last possession, Atkins did move the ball into RHS territory but the clock and the Camels’ luck ran out near midfield.
Turnovers plagued both teams throughout the first half. The first three Baby Ram possessions resulted in two fumbles and one interception.
Reidsville broke into the scoring column when Kenzel Doe took a Tracey Miller punt and raced 57 yards for a touchdown. With 10:46 left in the second quarter, the Baby Rams took an 8-0 lead. Butchee connected with Doe for the two-point conversion.
On defense, Reidsville got a fumble recovery from Williams and an interception from Doe.
Atkins got a pair of fumble recoveries from Tracey Clark and one each from Rashard Ingram and Tyrone Smith.
The Baby Rams return to action next Thursday night at Southern Guilford.
Atkins plays host to McMichael next week.
Both games are slated for 7 p.m. starts.
