Nov. 18 - Week two of the playoffs has arrived and the Reidsville Rams are one of 16 teams that has a chance to be 2-AA state champions.

Last week we advanced by beating the #16 seed West Stanly. The whole team played well and most of our back ups got plenty of action. Playing experience is very important for these guys as we prepare for the stretch run.

There are a lot of folks who feel that our playoff system is flawed and to some degree I agree. There is, however, no perfect system or everyone would be using the same system. In the states that border us each one has a different system.  Is one better than the other? I am not sure. Are there teams in the playoffs who do not deserve to be in?  I am not sure.  I do, however, know that in our system every team that deserves to be in is  in and to me that is more important.

My reason for believing this is simple. A few years back Western Alamance finished 3rd in our league and failed to make the playoffs. They very easily could have won the state title that year, but we had not yet expanded the playoffs and they failed to have an opportunity to play for a state championship.

West Stanly, who we played Friday, I believe also deserved to be in.  They are  a very young team and the opportunity to play a game in the playoffs gave those young guys some valuable experience. So even though our system is not perfect it is in my opinion the best option that we have right now.

This week we play North Pitt. This is third time we have faced them in the playoffs. Our basketball team also played them last year in the playoffs so even though they are 3 plus hours away we are pretty familiar with each other.

They have been a little down lately and got off to a slow start this year but have been playing really well lately. They beat Southern Guilford last week soundly to advance to round two.

The other thing that I know about the playoffs is that after week one all of the pretenders are gone and the teams still standing are all very good teams.

I also want to applaud our fans who came out Friday in poor weather conditions to support us. We has a very loyal fan base and we thank you.

I hope that you can come out again this week as we try and move a step closer to our 17th state title.

May each of you have a blessed week

Jimmy Teague
