Redskins Win Tourney Title

The Redskins completed a perfect season Saturday with a 13-0 win over the Steelers in the playoff championship game of the Reidsville Parks & Recreation Department's 10-12 football league at Community Stadium.

The Redskins also won the regular season with an 8-0 record with the Steelers second in both the season and playoffs.

Saturday's championship turned into a defensive slugfest after the Redskins jumped out to a 13-0 halftime lead. Twice the Steelers had interceptions to turn back scoring threats by the Redskins.

Rhamel Irving gave the Redskins a 7-0 lead in the first quarter with a 58-yard TD run and extra point. Justin Smith got the other score on a one-yard run in the second quarter. Smith also had an interception that set up his own scoring run.

Jaylin Scales and Tyree Smith had interceptions for the Steelers in the second half.

Both teams will be idle until Nov. 13 when Community Stadium will host a special doubleheader involving the Rockingham County Youth Football League.

The Steelers will play RCYFL runner-up Lincoln at 6 p.m. followed by the Redskins against RCYFL undefeated champion Bethany at 7:30. A $1 admission will be charged for that game.
