Rec Rams Win USFA Championship

 

The Reidsville Recreation Rams captured the United States Football Association championship Sunday at West Stokes High School.
The Rams blanked the Gray’s Creek Head Hunters of Fayetteville 21-0 in the championship game Sunday afternoon.
Reidsville had earlier defeated the R&R Dawgs 19-0 on Friday and came back with a tough 12-8 win over the Sandhills Patriots Saturday.
The Rec Rams were coached by Archie Scales, Irvin Doggett, Mike Galloway, and Jermaine Artis.
Team members were P.J. Barham, Devin Ellington, Rhamel Irving, Justin Smith, Eric Poteat, Corey Totten, Gerell Burch, Denzel Myers, Jordan Nelson, Brock Trahan, Ratrez Johnson, Raheem Johnson, Melford Holloway, Josh Mitchell, Devonte Siddle, Dominique Evans, Quentin Anglero, Chris Register, Jarron Cobb, Rashaad Galloway, Kevon Cummings, and Jayron Rankin.
Along with the 3-0 record in the USFA tournament, the Rec Rams also defeated a group of Eden All-Stars 27-0 two weeks ago to finish the postseason 4-0. In four games Reidsville outscored the opposition 79-8.
The team was sponsored by the Reidsville Parks & Recreation Department.

Sunday’s Game

The Rec Rams jumped out to a 21-0 lead in the first quarter and were never challenged.
Reidsville was able to substitute freely as the game was played with a continuous clock in the second half.
Justin Smith (34 yards), Rhamel Irving (32 yards), and Josh Mitchell (11 yards) all scored in the opening period. Irvin and Jarron Cobb had conversion runs.
Rashaad Galloway and Kevon Cummings recovered fumbles for Reidsville and Denzel Myers blocked a kick.
Myers, Cummings, Galloway, Mitchell, Smith, Chris Register, Raheem Johnson, Jordan Nelson, Devonte Siddle, Melford Holloway, and Jayron Rankin led the defense in the shutout.

Saturday’s Game

Sandhills 8

Reidsville led 12-0 late in the fourth quarter when Sandhills scored on a fumble recovery.
Smith and Irving both scored touchdowns for the Rams.

Friday’s Game
Reidsville 19
R&R Dawgs 0

Reidsville jumped out to a 13-0 halftime lead in Friday’s opening game.
Irving scored a pair of rushing TDs in the first half and then hit Smith with a 55-yard scoring strike in the second half.
Rankin recovered a fumble for the Rams and Evans had an interception.
